There are many aspects to implementing change in a large organization with complex software projects. Like many organizations, we have agile practices as mainstream, but needed to move beyond that to unleash the full potential of the organization and meet the demanding needs of the market. As executive development leader in IBM, I have led this transformation, and experienced success and tribulation. My leadership journey has evolved and demanded transformation innovation in process, tools, and people at each stage.

In my IBM career, I have led many software development teams from IBM WebSphere Application Server, to IBM CICS transaction server and, now, in Rational, where I lead a global development organization across 15 countries and 21 projects. I have consolidated my experience, into 5 best practices that cover the complete software development lifecycle and take into account the dimensions of process, tools, and culture change.

This presentation is to describe this journey, what I have learned, the best practices, what techniques I used, and how I recommend a software development team get started on their DevOps journey.
