PALM BAY PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Palm Bay Deputy Mayor Harry Santiago was joined by five local pastors during a recent council meeting in which he read a proclamation declaring Palm Bay’s participation and support of the National Day of Prayer which will be held on May 7th across the country. Love INC in partnership with local churches will host a Palm Bay prayer event on that day from noon until 1 p.m. at City Hall, 120 Malabar Road SE. “All of us have the freedom to pray and exercise our faiths openly,” Deputy Mayor Santiago read from the proclamation. “Let us give thanks for the freedom to practice our faith as we see fit, whether individually or in fellowship.”
During the event area pastors will lead an hour-long prayer service which will focus on prayer both individually and collectively. The pastors will lead prayers for our nation, its leaders, those who govern, and those who serve in the military. It will also serve as a time for citizens to connect with each other and the faith leaders in the community. “It is more important now than ever before to pray for our nation,” Deputy Mayor Santiago added. “With the events going in Baltimore and around the country and the world, our only real hope is to turn to God in prayer. I encourage our residents to participate, whether publicly or privately. We need to pray.”
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
